Lake Lucerne in Lucerne, Switzerland

Lake Lucerne is one of nature’s elegant masterpieces. The lake is the fourth largest in the country and is an odd shape, touching four different valleys. The water is beautiful, clear, and oddly still, even as boats and animals ruffle the waters. Even without a boating license, tourists are able to rent a small boat and drive around the lake effortlessly for a personalized tour. Those who would rather sit back and relax can enjoy a guided lake tour on a much larger boat. There are some parts of the lake where swimming is allowed.

Tips
We went near the tail end of September and it was chilly enough for a sweatshirt. We definitely did not swim then. We did opt for a private boat and it was great to go around and drive at our leisure. Be careful of oncoming boat traffic though!
