Santa Justa Lift in Lisbon, Portugal

The Santa Justa Lift or Carmo Lift is an elevator that opened in 1899, connecting the lower streets of Baixa to Carmo Square. Because Lisbon has so many hills, an elevator like this one is very practical in reaching new heights. This lift becomes a major tourist attraction during high season, with long lines and major wait times. The goal is to reach the observation deck which provides wonderful 360 views of Lisbon.

Tips
If the line is crowded, enter by taking the Elevador de Carmo (free but not scenic) and enter the Lift from Bairro Alto. You can go up the observation deck. Then, the line going down the Lift should be significantly shorter or nonexistent since most people want to explore Bairro Alto after.
