The Weekender: May 2022 Edition

This month was a long one with many miles driven (1600 total!) during a time that gas prices are skyrocketing. It was actually our delayed honeymoon, so we did a road trip through California. With the timing of things, it also happened to be my college reunion. Are we lovers of driving? No. And yet here’s May.

Mother’s Day at American Dream Mall

So huge note to self and everyone else. DO NOT GO TO THE MALL ON SUNDAY. I mean, you certainly can. There are old county rules in this part of New Jersey that says businesses can’t sell certain apparel on Sundays, which is enough to warrant most stores to be closed. The mall itself is open. My mother did enjoy walking around and getting onto the wheel which offered distant city views.

A Roadtrip From San Francisco to San Diego

Two weekends this month were spent in California. And the weekdays in between of course. We went from San Francisco down to San Diego, making stops in Santa Cruz, Monterrey, Carmel-by-the-sea, Big Sur, San Simeon, San Luis Obispo, Solvang, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, and Palm Springs. We drove probably over 800 miles in the span of 9 days. Much more detailed posts to come about this trip but below are some pictorial highlights.

A Weekday Yankee’s Game

Not a weekend activity, but after a long semester and a long and complicated project, I went to a Yankee’s game with my group! Shout out to my workplace for $2 tickets to the Yankees game. I had a hot dog but skipped on the beer. Was super happy however, to get everyone a round of drinks.

Reunion in Roanoke, VA

It was my ten year reunion at my undergraduate school Hollins University. It puts into perspective how fast the years go by! I had to document my first meal at Cracker Barrel which was a bit disappointing (I also have a sensitive stomach) and the pool/hot tub where we spent a lot of time off campus hanging out. This place is so precious to me and part of my formative adult years. I did bring hubs along as a driving partner but he mostly stayed in the hotel to work. And no, we didn’t go to school together because Hollins is a single sex college.
