The Weekender: July 2022 Edition

July saw one entire weekend devoted to school sadly! But the rest of it was devoted to rest and relaxation and a bit of fun. Summer is flying by at record pace and I’m counting the days until my few weeks of summer break.

July 4th Indoors

Summer heat and I are not the best of friends. I get awfully cranky which is not pleasant for me or present company. We ended up walking around our neighborhood and just lounging which was the perfect long weekend for me.

Astoria with Friends

We walked around Astoria a bit and ended up with dinner at Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Cuisine and dessert at Marvel Frozen Dairy. At Ruta Oaxaca, we start with the prerequisite salsa and chips and I ended up with the Beef Short Ribs for $29.95 featuing: slow cooked ribs, mole Oaxaca, platano macho puree, and croquetas de papa. The mole sauce was very flavorful but a bit heavy for me. Would totally recommend this and leftovers became my husband’s next meal. I’m not a big dessert person, so can’t speak to the soft serve that hubby had. The ice cream seemed decent!

Greenwich, Connecticut

I went to visit my friend in Greenwich, as she is now a Stamford resident. We walked up and down Greenwich Ave, having lunch at Mediterraneo (spicy eggplant dip, pizza, and lamb kabob/kofte), visiting the bookstore, and getting a new hat for me. The afternoon was sweltering and our walk consisted of us dragging our feet between air conditioned stores. We did get some iced teas and headed back to her place.

Queens Night Market

My friend came from Boston as she sometimes does. Putting it out into the universe but she needs to be a New Yorker! We went to the Queens Night Market, which happens on Saturdays during the summer season with a collection of vendors that celebrates the diversity of Queens. I believe the best food in New York is in Queens and many other people think so too. And I may be biased because I grew up here, but the diversity lends to authentic meals. There’s a bunch of different vendors so you can try anything and everything. I ate way to much.
