The Weekender: October 2022 Edition

October means Halloween and I’m all about the spooky fun. We kept it classy with a ballet outing too.

Irving’s Legend & Blaze Hudson Valley

We kicked off October with some awesome spooky goodness. Danny and I did a few activities in Hudson Valley, also home to Sleep Hallow, made famous by Washington Irving’s ghoulish story. Irving’s Legend at Washington Irving’s Sunnyside estate is a one-man show, with some guest appearances and it was pretty enjoyable, even if it was frigid that night! We then made our way up to the The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze at Hudson Valley. There is another location in Long Island that we went to the previous year. My advice is to dress warm and in layers because my dear husband was miserable and freezing.

New York City Ballet

Neither of us had been to the ballet, so we were pretty excited to go. Take note that on the balcony, there are staggering seats that are super confusing to buy and a lot of people were separated. We saw the All Balanchine II program, which included some modern-ish numbers and some Vienna waltzes. I have to say I enjoyed the waltzes more but the movement of the dancers was incredible to behold. I’d be interested in seeing a full story one day, with elaborate costumes and musical scores.

Red Feather Dinner

So Red Feather in NYC is a new-ish restaurant serving Southeast Asian fare and is actually owned by my friend’s fiancé! We were super excited to bring some of our friends here to try. It was so delicious that I forgot entree pictures but you will find those all over Yelp. The chef knows her stuff and you should catch her now before she’s on the rise. Definitely recommend and I’m not even being biased!

Halloween Party

Ok, so I’m obsessed with cute Halloween. This is my second annual Halloween party that I’ve hosted and I usually order in some food. This year was sushi and pizza, but we’ve also done fried chicken. It’s just a party that is super G-rated, innocent fun. We dress up a bit. Danny wore a banana hat and my little cousins were Mario and Luigi from the Nintendo games. I had a goddess crown but didn’t go full on with the outfit. My sisters were Peppa Pig and some BTS plushie character. Even my mother wore some Minnie Mouse ears.
